1 Black homeowners­hip lags: The persistent gap in the percentage of homeowners who are white and those who are Black continues even though homeowners­hip rates climbed to 65.5% in 2020, a 1.3-point rise from 2019, according to the National Associatio­n of Realtors. Black ownership rates increased to 43.3%, but still lagged whites (72%), Asian Americans (62%) and Hispanic Americans (51%).

2 Lights out for incandesce­nt bulbs: The Biden administra­tion is scrapping old-fashioned incandesce­nt light bulbs, speeding an ongoing trend toward more efficient lighting that officials say will save households, schools and businesses billions of dollars a year. Rules finalized by the Energy Department will require manufactur­ers to sell energy-efficient light bulbs. Compact fluorescen­t and LED bulbs last 25 to 50 times longer.

3 Administra­tion limits Alaska oil and gas leasing: The U.S. Interior Department has issued a decision to limit roughly half the National Petroleum Reserve-alaska to oil and gas leasing. The decision rolls back an approach taken by the Trump administra­tion, and it drew criticism from Alaska’s U.S. senators.

4 National guardsman’s body recovered: Search crews on Monday recovered the body of a Texas National Guard member who went missing after jumping in the river on the U.s.-mexico border to help a migrant who was struggling to swim across. The body of Spc. Bishop Evans was found three days after he was reported missing in the Rio Grande near the border city of Eagle Pass.

5 Forecast sinks GE: General Electric tumbled after saying it was trending toward the low end of its financial forecast for the year, the latest setback for the manufactur­er as it grapples with supply-chain turmoil and spiking raw material costs.
