Swartz a significant transfer-portal pickup

Georgia Tech’s women’s basketball team gained a significant addition through the transfer portal with the addition of Boston College guard Cameron Swartz. The team made the announcement Wednesday.

Swartz, from Marietta and a graduate of Fellowship Christian School, was named the ACC’S most improved player and was an ALL-ACC first-team selection this season. She averaged 16.1 points (sixth in the conference) and 4.7 rebounds per game.

The 5-foot-11 Swartz, who has one year of eligibility remaining, figures to fill coach Nell Fortner’s need for scoring help with the graduation of guard Lotta-maj Lahtinen and forwards Lorela Cubaj and Digna Strautmane

and the transfer of guard Sarah Bates. The four combined to score 56% of Tech’s points this season, led by Lahtinen’s 10.9 points per game.

Swartz also was 60 for 169 from 3-point range (35.5%). The Jackets shot 31.3% from beyond the arc. Swartz played three seasons for the Eagles after playing her first year at Colorado. She started 71 games and played in 82 for the Eagles.

said in a statement. “Her game has consistently grown throughout her collegiate career and she has proven herself to be one of the best scorers in the ACC. We are looking forward to having her experience on the floor and helping us continue to win at the highest level.”

Swartz is Tech’s second addition through the transfer portal this offseason, following the transfer of Florida State guard Bianca Jackson. A 5-11 guard from Montgomery, Ala., Jackson played two seasons for Florida State after two seasons at South Carolina. She averaged 6.7 points per game this season for the Seminoles after leading the team in scoring in 2020-21 with 14.1 points and 3.6 assists per game. She has one year of eligibility remaining.

Tech women’s coach Nell Fortner has added an ALL-ACC player.
