COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Alabama cornerback Eli Ricks was arrested in Mississippi on charges of speeding, not having insurance and a first offense possession of marijuana. The Jones County Sheriff ’s Department’s online records show Ricks was booked at 5:14 p.m. Sunday. The bond was listed as $0. Ricks is battling for a starting spot in Alabama’s secondary after transferring from LSU.

PRO BASEBALL: The Brewers designated RHP José Ureña for assignment and activated infielder Luis Urías from the injured list. Ureña signed with the Brewers before the season and went 0-0 with a 3.52 ERA in four relief appearances. Urías entered the season as the likely starting third baseman but hasn’t played because of a quadriceps injury.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL: James Madison canceled the remainder of its season as the school tries to cope with the death of one of its players. Lauren Bernett, a sophomore catcher and cleanup hitter, died April 25 following a stellar weekend series against Drexel, for which she was named Colonial Athletic Association player of the week. The Rockingham (Va.) County Sheriff ’s office classified the death as an apparent suicide.

PRO HOCKEY: The Penguins will begin a first-round playoff matchup against the Rangers without goaltender Tristan Jarry, though they haven’t ruled out the All-star’s return during the series. Coach Mike Sullivan indicated Jarry would not be available when the series opens in New York today. Jarry has a lower-body injury. Casey Desmith will start.

COLLEGE MEN’S BASKETBALL: Texas shooting guard Andrew Jones, whose career was interrupted for nearly two years by leukemia, said he will skip a final college season and turn pro. Jones ranks ninth in scoring in program history with 1,620 points.
