PRO BASEBALL: Trevor Bauer’s arbitration appeal of his unprecedented twoyear suspension under MLB’s domestic violence policy has been scheduled to start May 23, a person familiar with the hearing told The Associated Press. The appeal will be heard by a three-person panel chaired by independent arbitrator Martin Scheinman. It will include one representative each from MLB and the players’ association.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Florida signed graduate transfer and St. Bonaventure guard Kyle Lofton on Friday, a potentially huge addition for new coach Todd Golden. Lofton earned All-Atlantic 10 honors each of the past three seasons while totaling 1,613 points and 604 assists. The 6-foot-3 point guard started 116 games during his four years with the Bonnies, averaging a nationleading 38.1 minutes a game.

PRO BASEBALL: Robinson Canó has found another job in the majors, signing with San Diego less than a week after being released by the Mets. The Padres plan to use the 39-yearold Canó as a left-handed bat off the bench. The Mets owe Canó nearly $45 million remaining on his original contract signed with Seattle.

SOCCER: China withdrew as host of the 2023 Asian Cup on Saturday in the latest cancellation of the country’s sports hosting duties during the COVID-19 pandemic. The 24-nation tournament was due to be played in 10 cities next June and July.

PRO FOOTBALL: Former Seahawks and Ravens safety Earl Thomas was arrested Friday in Texas more than two weeks after a warrant was issued over an alleged violation of a protective order. Austin police said Thomas violated the court order by sending threatening messages to a woman.
