1 WOMEN’S SOCCER: Alex Morgan scored a pair of first-half goals and the U.S. women’s national team defeated Haiti 3-0 Monday night in the opening match of the CONCACAF W Championship in Monterrey, Mexico. The tournament determines the region’s four direct berths in the 2023 Women’s World Cup, co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

2 PRO SOCCER: Players have been cautioned by their trade unions about joining clubs in China, Saudi Arabia and Turkey among countries with “systematic and widespread contractual violations.” FIFPRO, the global group of player unions, said Tuesday its national members should be consulted about prospective transfers and freeagent signings. In the first full week of offseason trading in most of Europe, Turkey and Romania were singled out for longstanding issues at multiple clubs including defaulting on salary payments.

3 HOCKEY: Appeals by Russia and its ally Belarus against bans from the world ice hockey championship following the invasion of Ukraine have been rejected by the international governing body. The decision “was not a sanction but was a safety policy,” the International Ice Hockey Federation disciplinary board ruled Tuesday.

4 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Brexten Green, a wide receiver for Emporia State, died Saturday in a cliffdiving accident at Grand Lake in Oklahoma, the university announced. Green, from Cashion, Oklahoma, was set to start his second year after redshirting last season. He was seeking a business administration degree.

5 PRO HOCKEY: The Coachella Valley Firebirds hired the American Hockey League’s first female assistant coach. Jessica Campbell spent the past year working with the Tri-city Storm of the USHL development program.
