1 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Two members of the Indiana State University football team were among three students killed in a weekend crash, officials said Monday. Those killed were Christian Eubanks, 18, of Waukegan, Illinois; Jayden Musili, 19, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Caleb Vanhooser, 19, of Liberty Township, Ohio. Eubanks was a freshman linebacker and Vanhooser was a freshman defensive back. Musili was a sophomore who wasn’t on the football team, the school said.
2 PRO HOCKEY: The New York Islanders have signed defensemen Noah Dobson and Alexander Romanov to three-year contracts. The Islanders also announced Monday the signing of forward Kieffer Bellows to a one-year deal. Dobson led Islanders’ defensemen in goals (13), assists (38) and points (51) last season.
3 AUTO RACING: Four-time defending Top Fuel champion Steve Torrence raced to his first victory of the season Sunday, defending his event win at Brainerd International Raceway in the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals. Beating eight-time season champ Tony Schumacher in the final round, Torrence picked up his 52nd victory with a run of 3.866 seconds at 322.04 mph.
4 PRO SOCCER: Former U.S. national team star Tab Ramos was hired Monday as coach of the Hartford Athletic in the second-tier United Soccer League Championship. Ramos agreed to a multiyear contract and will start work on Sept. 1. He coached the Houston Dynamo in Major League Soccer for 2020 and 2021.
5 PRO SOCCER: Less than a year after coaching the Washington Spirit from ruin to its first National Women’s Soccer League championship, Kris Ward was fired Monday amid a 15-game winless streak. The Spirit (1-6-9) have not won since the season opener May 1.
