Four more Gop-led states to

enact abortion “trigger” laws: Four more Republican-led states — Idaho, Tennessee, Texas and North Dakota — will ban almost all abortions this week as another slate of laws severely limiting the procedure takes effect following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. The change will not be dramatic.all of these states except North Dakota already had anti-abortion laws in place that largely blocked patients from accessing the procedure.

Oklahoma executes man:

Oklahoma executed James Coddington, 50, on Thursday for a 1997 killing, despite a recommenda­tion from the state’s Pardon and Parole Board that his life be spared. He received a lethal injection at the Oklahoma State Penitentia­ry in Mcalester and was pronounced dead at 10:16 a.m.

Mortgage rates surge higher:

Rising bond yields drove mortgage rates higher this week. According to data released Thursday by Freddie Mac, the 30-year fixedrate average climbed to 5.55% with an average 0.8 points. It was 5.13% a week ago and 2.87% a year ago.

Court: Arkansas can’t ban treatment of transgende­r kids:

A federal appeals court on Thursday said Arkansas can’t enforce its ban on transgende­r children receiving genderaffi­rming medical care. A threejudge panel of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a judge’s ruling temporaril­y blocking the state from enforcing the 2021 law. A trial is scheduled in October.

Peloton reports $1.2 billion loss:

Peloton, the exercise bike company that saw huge success in the early days of the pandemic only to flounder as sales slowed, reported a $1.2 billion quarterly loss Thursday as it struggled to sell excess inventory. Revenue in the fourth quarter fell 28%, to $679 million, from the same period a year ago. The company has lost money for six straight quarters.
