ECB makes historic rate hike: The 1

European Central Bank made its largest-ever interest rate increase Thursday, following the U.S. Federal Reserve and other central banks in a global stampede of rapid rate hikes meant to snuff out record inflation. The bank’s governing council raised its key benchmarks by threequart­ers of a percentage point for the 19 countries that use the euro currency.

Judge rules against HIV drug 2 coverage:

U.S. District Judge Reed O’connor ruled Wednesday that required coverage under the Affordable Care Act of the HIV prevention treatment known as PREP violates a Texas employer’s religious beliefs and undercut the broader system that determines which preventive drugs are covered in the U.S.

U.S. may expand monkeypox

3 vaccine eligibilit­y: The expansion could include many men with HIV or those recently diagnosed with other sexually transmitte­d diseases. Currently, the CDC recommends the vaccine to close contacts of someone who has monkeypox; people who know a sexual partner was diagnosed in the past two weeks; and gay or bisexual men who had multiple sexual partners in the last two weeks in an area with known virus spread.

Ukraine energy chief:russia 4 trying to ‘steal’ nuclear plant:

The head of Ukraine’s atomic energy operator accused Russia on Thursday of trying to“steal” Europe’s largest nuclear plant by cutting it off from the Ukrainian electricit­y grid and leaving it on the brink of a radiation disaster. The Zaporizhzh­ia Nuclear Power Plant has been without an outside source of electricit­y since Monday.

Earl’s swell could affect U.S.:

Hurricane Earl is forecast to become a Category 4 hurricane and pass to the southeast of Bermuda. Swells are expected to reach the U.S. east coast and cause life-threatenin­g surf and rip current conditions through this weekend.
