A QUICK LOOK AT THE ROSTER
Quarterbacks
■ Marcus Mariota, QB, 7 seasons of experience: Has gone 29-32 as a starter and is trying to revive his once-promising career.
■ Desmond Ridder, QB, rookie: Promising talent who throws a nice deep ball. Was 44-5 as a starter at Cincinnati.
Running backs
■ Cordarrelle Patterson, RB, 9: The electric playmaker will be counted to run and get open in the passing game.
■ Damien Williams, RB, 7: He has been a trusted backup with several teams and can make big plays running and receiving.
■ Tyler Allgeier, RB, R: Promising young back who ran with authority in college.
■ Avery Williams, RB, 1: Converted defensive back with great open-field running ability.
■ Keith Smith, FB, 8: Key lead blocker for the rushing attack. Can catch the ball, too. Valued special teamer.
Wide receivers
■ Drake London, WR, R: Former USC basketball player is the key to the revamped receiving corps. ■ Bryan Edwards, WR, 2: A big, rangy receiver who will be counted on to get open on third downs.
■ Olamide Zaccheaus, WR, 3: A speedster who can take the top off a defense. Valuable special teamer.
■ Khadarel Hodge, WR, 4: Rugged receiver with great hands and the ability to work through zone defenses.
■ Damiere Byrd, WR, 6: Crafty route-runner with the ability to get open deep.
■ Jared Bernhardt, WR, R: Former lacrosse star led the team in receiving in preseason games. Still working on his routerunning.
Tight ends
■ Kyle Pitts, TE, 1: Has the ability to line up in-line or flank out to cause matchup issues for any defense.
■ Parker Hesse, TE, 2: A converted defensive end who feels like a “natural” after four years of work.
■ Feleipe Franks, TE, 1: Will serve as a backup tight end and quarterback.
Offensive line
■ Jake Matthews, LT,
8: A rock along the front and a model of high-level consistency.
■ Elijah Wilkinson, LG, 5: Has mostly played right tackle but won the starting left guard spot.
■ Drew Dalman, C, 1: New starter. A technician in the trenches with the ability to run the outside zone system.
■ Chris Lindstrom, RG, 4: A stabilizing force in the interior of the line.
■ Kaleb Mcgary, RT, 4:
Highly motivated after having his $12.3 million fifth-year option denied. Has struggled in pass protection.
■ Matt Hennessy, C,
2: He’s a battler in the trenches with the ability to climb to the second level.
■ Chuma Edoga, T, 3: Former Mceachern standout was claimed off waivers. Backing up at left tackle.
■ Colby Gossett, G, 2: Had a solid training camp and provides quality depth.
■ Germain Ifedi, T, 6:
Former first-round pick of Seattle who never got in the mix for the starting right tackle spot.
Defensive line
■ Grady Jarrett, DE, 7:
Two-time Pro Bowler who’s set to anchor the front of the defense.
■ Anthony Rush, NT, 3:
A stout defender up front with the ability to penetrate and collapse the pocket.
■ Ta’quon Graham, DE, 1:
He’s expected to make a big leap in his second season in the NFL.
■ Timothy Horne, NT,
R: Started his career at Charlotte and improved his profile after a final season at Kansas State.
■ Matt Dickerson, DE, 3: Was claimed on waivers. Played three seasons with the Titans.
■ Abdullah Anderson, DE, 1: Signed midway through training camp. Showed explosiveness.
Outside linebackers
■ Ade Ogundeji, OLB, 1:
Can set the edge in the run game and is developing his pass-rush moves.
■ Lorenzo Carter, OLB, 4:
Free-agent signee who is a scheme-fit and has passrush ability.
■ Arnold Ebiketie, OLB, R:
Lost containment a couple of times in the preseason games. Team hopes he can become an effective passrusher.
■ Deangelo Malone, OLB, R: Plays extremely hard. Should contribute immediately on special teams.
■ Quinton Bell, OLB, 1: A rangy defender with some pass-rush ability.
Inside linebackers
■ Rashaan Evans, ILB, 4: Former first-round pick is trying to revive his career after a promising start in Tennessee.
■ Mykal Walker, ILB, 2:
Versatile linebacker who’s set to take over as the defensive signal-caller.
■ Troy Andersen, ILB, R: Showed some promise while playing against Jets and Jaguars backups.
■ Nick Kwiatkoski, ILB, 6: Was injured for most of the exhibition season but provides quality depth.
■ Nathan Landman, ILB, R: Showed the ability to mix it up inside and was a forceful tackler.
Cornerbacks
■ A.J. Terrell, CB, 2: Has developed into the one of the top cover cornerbacks in the NFL.
■ Casey Hayward, CB, 10: Former Pro Bowler and savvy veteran who can still play man-to-man.
■ Dee Alford, CB, R: Set to start season at nickel back after dynamic exhibition season.
■ Darren Hall, CB, 1: Has a quad injury and has been limited in practice recently. ■ Mike Ford, CB, 4: Special teams maven who can play some nickel back.
Safeties
■ Richie Grant, SS, 1: Set to take over at strong safety after playing nickel back as a rookie.
■ Jaylinn Hawkins, FS, 2: Has played well in spot duty. Can he hold up as a full-time starter?
■ Dean Marlowe, FS, 5: Quality reserve who can help out on special teams. ■ Erik Harris, S, 6: A starter last season, he shifts to a reserve role.
Special teams
■ Younghoe Koo, PK, 3:
Clutch kicker with the fancy onside kicks.
■ Bradley Pinion, P, 7:
Former Clemson star has a strong leg and great ball placement. Will handle kickoffs.
■ Liam Mccullough, LS, R: Former Ohio State player set to take over from departed Pro Bowler Josh Harris (free agency to Chargers).
