Much-anticipate­d shows arrive for fall

The fall TV season is officially here with a little something for everyone. There has never been more to see on TV. Here are some highlights, all of which are available streaming, with some also airing on broadcast (where noted).

Amazon

■ “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” new episodes Fridays. One of the most expensive series produced, this “Lord of the Rings” prequel takes place during the Second Age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before events in the popular book and film trilogy and will follow the forging of the Rings of Power and Sauron’s rise to power.

Apple TV+

■ “Central Park” season premiere aired Friday with new episodes each week. From the minds behind “Bob’s Burgers” comes a new season of this charming, musical, animated-comedy series. Featuring the voice talents of Leslie Odom Jr., Josh Gad, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Kathryn Hahn, Daveed Diggs and a returning Kristen Bell, the third season looks to be the most star-studded yet.

■ “Mythic Quest” premiering new episodes this fall. The third season of the comedy finds the video game developmen­t team potentiall­y expanding into the metaverse and characters Ian and Poppy developing a new game based on the failed Hera expansion, setting up a bitter rivalry with the original Mythic Quest crew. No release date for the new season has been given yet, with Apple simply saying “fall 2022.”

Disney+

■ “Dancing With the Stars” season premiere Sept. 19 with new episodes Mondays. The reality mainstay has returning host Tyra Banks teaming up with new co-host (and season 19 winner) Alfonso Ribiero for the first live streaming competitio­n show in history. Episodes will be streamed live at 8 p.m. Mondays.

■ “Andor” series premiere Sept. 21 with new episodes Wednesdays. This “Rogue One” prequel takes place five years before the film and will feature Diego Luna returning as Cassian Andor, a thief-turned-Rebel spy who becomes an instrument­al figure in the opposition to the Galactic Empire.

HBO

■ “Los Espookys” season premiere Friday with new episodes each week. HBO’s genre-bending horror-comedy series is back after three years and finds Renaldo, Ursula, Tati, Andres and Uncle Tico (played by a hilarious Fred Armisen) again getting into horrifying (and hilarious) high jinks that include the mystery of a dead beauty queen haunting a supermarke­t, the return of demon Sombra del Agua (who has been stuck in traffic) and gazpacho made with ketchup.

Hulu

■ “Abbot Elementary” season premiere Sept. 21 (ABC) and 22 (Hulu) with new episodes weekly. One of 2021’s best comedies returns. Written, created, and starring Quinta Brunson, this series follows the hilarious and heartfelt misadventu­res of the staff of an underfunde­d Philadelph­ia elementary school.

■ “The Handmaid’s Tale” season premiere Sept. 14 with new episodes Wednesdays. Hulu’s Emmy-winning dystopian drama is back for Season 5, which will see main character June reckoning with the bloody aftermath of the Season 4 finale.

■ “Reboot” series premiere Sept. 20 with new episodes Tuesdays. This new comedy from the creator of “Modern Family” chronicles the revival of an early 2000s family sitcom, forcing its dysfunctio­nal cast back together.

Netflix

■ “Cobra Kai” all episodes of Season 5 streaming now. The newest season of the martial-arts drama will see plenty of fighting, unlikely team-ups and potentiall­y a big character death, according to a cryptic tease from series co-creator Hayden Schlossber­g.

■ “Nailed it!” all episodes of Season 7 streaming Oct. 5. Netflix’s long-running amateur baking show is back with hosts Nicole Byer and pastry chef Jacques Torres with a new season of epic failures and exciting culinary guests.

■ “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiositie­s” all episodes streaming Oct. 25. In the mood for something scary? This new anthology series will feature eight unique horror stories, all introduced by del Toro.

Paramount+

■ “Star Trek: Lower Decks” new episodes streaming Thursdays. This animated “Star Trek” spinoff follows the various missions and misadventu­res of the “lower deckers” on the USS Cerritos as they try their best to support their commanding officers while forging their own path.

■ “The Good Fight” season premiered Thursday with new episodes each week. The sixth and final season of this long-running legal drama finds Christine Baranski’s Diane Lockhart dealing with a number of real-world issues, including the overturnin­g of Roe v. Wade, voting rights, Cold War aggression­s and more.

Peacock

■ “Last Light” all episodes streaming now. This five-episode event series stars Matthew Fox and tells the story of a family fighting to survive in a world that has been suddenly thrown into chaos thanks to an energy crisis.

■ “Quantum Leap” series premiere Sept. 19 (NBC) and 20 (Peacock) with new episodes weekly. A reboot of the original ’80s mainstay, this series looks to solve the mystery of Dr. Sam Beckett who stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerato­r and vanished 30 years ago.

■ “Law and Order: Organized Crime” Season 3 premiere Sept. 22 (NBC) and 23 (Peacock) with new episodes weekly. A new season of the hugely successful “Law and Order: SVU” spinoff ’s third season premiere finds Elliot Stabler teaming up with characters from three different “Law and Order” franchises.
