1 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh was named Big Ten coach of the year and Iowa linebacker Jack Campbell is defensive player of the year, the conference announced. Harbaugh has the unbeaten Wolverines positioned for a second straight appearance in the College Football Playoff following last week’s win at Ohio State. Michigan plays Purdue in the conference championsh­ip game Saturday. Campbell was second in the Big Ten with 118 tackles and intercepte­d two passes as the anchor of an Iowa defense that allowed 14.4 points and 277.9 yards per game.

2 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Quarterbac­ks Caleb Williams of USC, C.J. Stroud of Ohio State and Hendon Hooker of Tennessee were named finalists for the Maxwell Award as the player of the year in college football. The Maxwell finalists were announced Tuesday along with finalists for most of the other awards that will be presented Dec. 8 on ESPN.

3 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Northweste­rn coach Pat Fitzgerald is shaking up his staff after the Wildcats’ worst season in 33 years (1-11), announcing that defensive coordinato­r Jim O’neil and two other assistants will not return. Defensive line coach Marty Long and wide receivers coach Dennis Springer also were let go.

PRO HOCKEY: The Dallas Stars 4 signed Finnish center Roope Hintz to a $67.5 million, eight-year contract extension. The deal takes effect at the start of next season and goes through the 2030-31 season with an average value of $8.45 million. Hintz has 88 goals and 106 assists in his 261 games over five NHL seasons with Dallas.

5 PRO BASEBALL: The Pittsburgh Pirates signed first baseman/ DH Carlos Santana to a 1-year contract worth $6.75 million. The 36-year-old split time between Kansas City and Seattle in 2022, hitting .202 with 19 home runs and 60 RBIS.
