A Kennesaw State Univer- sity student says he was beaten up and called a racial slur by two men at an apartment complex near campus early Sunday, according to authorities.

Kennesaw police said the fight occurred around 12:10 a.m. at the West 22 apartment complex, located about two miles west of campus.

Jalique Rosemond, who is Black, told officers that two white men beat him to the ground, kicked him in the face and repeatedly called him the n-word.

Rosemond, who was left with a bloody nose, was taken to a hospital by his roommate, police said.

Security camera footage obtained by Channel 2 Action News appears to show part of the attack outside one of the apartment buildings at the complex.

“Based on the current video evidence and statements, this could ultimately be racially motivated, but all aspects of this case will be investigated and the proper charges will be applied,” police said in a statement.

According to a police report, officers spoke with a resident at West 22 who said he allowed a white male to stay at his apartment for 10 minutes after the attack. He said the person who entered his apartment told him a car was driving recklessly through the parking lot and had nearly struck his friend, the report stated.

The man said his fraternity brothers confronted people in the vehicle, then assaulted the driver. He added one of his fraternity brothers believed someone in the car had a gun, while Rosemond told police no one was armed, the report said.

Rosemond, who lives at the complex, said the attack- ers took his books and a KSU backpack, then grabbed a sandwich out of his hand. The backpack and part of the sandwich were found hanging from a tree, according to the report. Rosemond also said the men took his car keys, which were later found underneath his vehicle.

Rosemond told police he had never seen the men before.

After the attack, Rosemond said the men ran into a nearby fraternity house, located in the 1000 building at the complex, the report said. Members of the fraternity were interviewed by police.

Detectives are looking to speak with occupants of a Jeep Wrangler that was present during the attack, police said.

Anyone with more infor- mation is asked to call the Kennesaw police Criminal Investigations Division at 770-429-4533.
