Haiti prime minister Ariel Henry on Monday formally appointed a transition council charged with ensuring that long-awaited general elections are held in a country with no democratically elected institutions. Haiti has failed to hold elections since the July 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moïse.
2 ‘Dances With Wolves’ actor charged in sex case:
abuse Former “Dances With Wolves”actor Nathan Chasing Horse has been formally charged with sex trafficking, sexual assault and child abuse in Nevada. Las Vegas police say the 46-yearold sexually abused Indigenous girls and women, and ran a cult for two decades. A judge at his arraignment Monday ordered Chasing Horse to return for a bail hearing Wednesday.
3 Hawaii firefighter dies after being swept into storm drain:
A firefighter who was swept into a storm drain while responding to a storm on the Hawaiian island of Maui died over the weekend, officials said. Tre’ Evans-dumaran, 24, was swept into a storm drain during heavy rain in Wailuku on Jan. 27. He was carried the length of eight football fields until he was found where the drain ended near the shoreline.
4 Israeli troops kill 5 Palestinian gunmen in West Bank raid:
Israeli forces have killed five Palestinian gunmen in a raid on a West Bank refugee camp. Monday’s raid, which the military said was meant to arrest suspects allegedly involved in a botched attack on Israelis, was likely to further exacerbate tensions in the region. The Hamas militant group claimed all five as members of its armed wing. The Palestinian president called the raid a crime.
4 Florida teen pleads guilty to fatally stabbing classmate:
Aiden Fucci had been charged with stabbing 13-year-old Tristyn Bailey 114 times and leaving her body in a wooded area near their homes in 2021. Fucci was 14 at the time.
