1 PRO SOCCER: Ramon Menezes will serve as Brazil’s interim coach while the search continues for a permanent successor to Tite, who stepped down after the World Cup. The 50-yearold Menezes guided Brazil’s Under-20 team to the South American championsh­ip title Sunday and will be in charge for a friendly against World Cup semifinali­st Morocco in Tangier on March 25, the Brazilian Football Confederat­ion said Wednesday.

2 PRO BASEBALL: Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black agreed to a one-year contract extension that goes through the 2024 season. Black has a 417-453 mark with Colorado since being hired before the 2017 season. He’s third in franchise history in wins, behind Clint Hurdle with 534 and Don Baylor with 440. The team has made the postseason twice under Black’s leadership.

3 AUTO RACING: Daniel Suárez has signed a second extension in six months with Trackhouse Racing, getting a multiyear deal done after landing a one-year contract in August. The team announced Suárez’s latest extension the same day NASCAR kicked off Speedweeks with Daytona 500 media day and pole qualifying. The team declined to release details but was eager to keep the 31-year-old Mexican behind the wheel for a third season and beyond for co-owners Justin Marks and Pitbull.

4 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Maryland has hired Kevin Sumlin as a co-offensive coordinato­r and associate head coach. Sumlin went 35-17 as Houston’s coach from 2008-11 and 51-26 at Texas A&M from 2012-17. He was 9-20 at Arizona before being fired in 2020.

5 TRACK: Former 800-meter youth world champion Jackline Wambui of Kenya has been banned for two years after testing positive for the substance norandrost­erone.
