A design train wreck: A major
1 error in the design of trains for two northern Spanish regions has led to the resignation of two top transport officials, bringing to four the number of people who have lost their jobs because of the controversy this month. A total of 31 narrow-gauge trains were ordered in 2020 for the regions of Asturias and Cantabria but it emerged just weeks ago that under the original designs the trains would not have fit in tunnels in the regions.
Alligator rescued in NYC: It’s
2 no urban legend: An alligator was found in a chilly New York City lake on Sunday, far from the climates where such creatures thrive. The 4-foot-long reptile was pulled from Prospect Park Lake in Brooklyn around 8:30 a.m. and taken for medical treatment and rehabilitation. Officials said the gator appeared lethargic and possibly cold shocked. It was likely dumped as an unwanted pet, they said.
Three killed in Chicago: Three 3 people were killed, including an infant, and three more were hurt after a shooting on a Chicago interstate highway, officials said Monday. The shooting occurred Sunday at around 10:30 p.m. on the I-57 expressway near 111th Street in the South Side, Illinois State Police trooper Josh Robinson said.
Meta tests verification: Meta 4 is testing a new subscription service that would let Facebook and Instagram users pay for a verified account. For $11.99 per month on the web or $14.99 per month on Apple and Android operating systems, Meta will use a government identification to verify a user’s account and give the account a blue badge.
