1 PRO BASEBALL: Jacob degrom threw his first bullpen session in spring training camp for the Texas Rangers on Thursday — eight days after the team’s first official workout, when the newly acquired right-hander was held out because of tightness in his left side. Texas signed degrom, 34, to a $185 million, five-year contract during the offseason. He spent the first nine years of his big league career with the Mets.

PRO BASEBALL: Bryce Harper’s arrival at spring training camp remains a couple of weeks away as the slugger recovers from elbow surgery, Phillies President Dave Dombrowski said. Harper had surgery on his right elbow in November after leading the Phillies to the NL pennant. Harper sustained a small tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in April. He last played right field at Miami on April 16, before shifting to DH.

TENNIS: John Mcenroe and Bjorn 3

Borg will return as Laver Cup captains this year, when the team event moves to Canada for the first time. Mcenroe will lead Team World against Borg’s Team Europe at Rogers Arena in Vancouver from Sept. 22-24. The only player named to either six-man roster so far is Felix Auger-aliassime, a 22-year-old from Montreal who is No. 9 in the ATP rankings.

HORSE RACING: The Breeders’ 4

Cup selected Del Mar to host the world championsh­ips next year, marking the third time the picturesqu­e California track will stage the season-ending graded stakes races that feature the top thoroughbr­eds. Del Mar will present 14 Grade 1 races with purses worth more than $31 million on Nov. 1-2, 2024.
