1 COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Terry Holland, who elevated Virginia basketball to national prominence during 16 seasons as coach, has died. He was 80. Holland’s death Sunday night was announced by the school Monday. In 1974, Holland took over a program that had just three winning seasons in 21 years. He guided the Cavaliers to nine NCAA Tournament­s, two Final Fours and the 1980 NIT title.

2 PRO HOCKEY: K’andre Miller of the New York Rangers will have a hearing with the NHL’S department of player safety for spitting at L.A. Kings defenseman Drew Doughty. It was not immediatel­y clear which day the hearing would take place. The Rangers do not play again until Wednesday at Philadelph­ia. Miller posted a message to social media saying his actions were completely accidental and goes against who he is as a person and player.

3 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Florida has hired Austin Armstrong as its defensive coordinato­r. Armstrong spent less than two months as an assistant on Nick Saban’s Alabama staff. He previously served as defensive coordinato­r for two years at Southern Mississipp­i. The 29-year-old Armstrong replaces Patrick Toney.

4 RUGBY: Brady Rush scored with seconds remaining to seal New Zealand’s victory over Argentina in the Los Angeles Sevens final and avenge a loss on home soil a month ago. New Zealand opened a 17-0 lead with two tries from Leroy Carter and one from Moses Leo before Argentina hit back to narrow the margin to five points and again threaten a comeback.

5 PRO BASEBALL: The toronto Blue Jays have hired former Astros general manager James Click to be their new vice president of baseball strategy. Click helped build the Houston teams that went to three straight AL Championsh­ip Series and backto-back World Series.
