Bills DC Frazier to take this season off, plans to return in 2024

-

Buffalo defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier is taking a year off from coaching but plans to return for the 2024 season, the team announced Tuesday.

The team did not provide any other details on Frazier’s decision, which comes a little more than five weeks after the three-time AFC East champion Bills were eliminated with a 27-10 loss to Cincinnati in the divisional round.

Speaking at the NFL scouting combine at Indianapolis, general manager Brandon Beane said Frazier informed the team of his decision last week.

Beane said the team is still working through how to fill the vacancy, noting the Bills have plenty of experience on their defensive coaching staff.

GIANTS: A person familiar with the situation says New York has told Kenny Golladay and his agent he will be released March 15 after two seasons. The move was expected after Golladay caught 43 passes and one touchdown in his time with the team after signing a four-year, $72 million contract. The Giants will save roughly $6.7 million in cap space this year and will have $14 million in dead cap money.

BROWNS: General manager Andrew Berry said Tuesday the team will release veteran safety John Johnson III, who signed a three-year $33.75 million contract as a free agent two years ago. The Browns will save $9.75 million in cap space if they release Johnson with a post-june 1 designation.

COMMANDERS: Washington put the franchise tag on Daron Payne, solving one of their biggest offseason problems by keeping the standout defensive tackle under contract following the best season of his NFL career. Payne will earn just more than $18.9 million if he plays on the tag next season. Payne led the team with a career-high 11½ sacks and went to the Pro Bowl in 2022.
