1 PRO FOOTBALL: Former Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Letroy Guion has been sentenced to one year in jail. He had pleaded no contest in a domestic violence assault at his home last fall. A Brown Circuit Court judge sentenced Guion on Tuesday. The judge also ordered Guion to serve three years’ probation and complete a domestic violence interventi­on program.

2 TENNIS: Former chair umpire Jake Garner will be the new tournament referee for the U.S. Open as of this year’s tournament, responsibl­e for making the draws, preparing the daily match schedule and overseeing all officiatin­g. Garner was a chair umpire from 2006-18, overseeing 18 Grand Slam finals, and served as the U.S. Open’s chief umpire from 2019-21. Last year, he was an assistant tournament referee under referee Wayne Mckewen.

PRO BASKETBALL: New Orleans 3

Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado will be out at least three weeks and forward Larry Nance Jr. will miss two weeks because of recent injuries, the club announced Tuesday. Those losses to the roster come as the Pelicans have been sliding down the Western Conference standings with 18 losses in 25 games since star power forward Zion Williamson strained his right hamstring.

PRO BASKETBALL: David Benner, 4 who spent nearly 30 years as the director of media relations for the Indiana Pacers, died Wednesday after a long illness. He was 67. The former Indianapol­is Star sportswrit­er was with the Pacers for 28 years, retiring last season.

SKIING: American skier Mikaela

Shiffrin dominated downhill training in Norway on Wednesday ahead of what could become another record-breaking weekend. Shiffrin is aiming for her 86th career World Cup victory to match the all-time mark set by Swedish great Ingemar Stenmark in the 1970s and ’80s. Shiffrin is expected to have three chances this weekend, starting with a super-g on Friday.
