PRO HOCKEY: The Boston Bruins have signed forward David Pastrnak to an eight-year contract extension that will pay him $90 million — the sixth-largest deal in NHL history. The deal locks up one of the league’s MVP candidates through the 2030-31 season for $11.25 million a season. He had been eligible to become a free agent after this season. Pastrnak is second in the league this season with 42 goals, adding 38 assists while leading Boston to the best record in the NHL.

The Ottawa Senators have acquired defenseman Jakob Chychrun in a trade with the Arizona Coyotes. The Senators sent three draft picks, including a conditiona­l firstround pick, to Arizona in a deal struck two days before the NHL’S trade deadline. Chychrun had been scratched for trade-related reasons since Feb. 11.

WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL:

Lindsay Whalen resigned as Minnesota women’s basketball coach after a third straight losing season. Whalen is considered the greatest player in the program’s history and was hired five years ago with no previous coaching experience. The Gophers’ 11-19 season ended with a first-round loss to Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday.

Saints running back Alvin Kamara and three other men have pleaded not guilty in Nevada to charges they beat a man unconsciou­s at a Las Vegas nightclub before the 2022 Pro Bowl. Kamara appeared with Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Chris Lammons and two other defendants in court Thursday.

PRO SOCCER: Milwaukee Bucks 5 star Giannis Antetokoun­mpo and Nashville Predators forward Filip Forsberg have joined the ownership group of Major League Soccer’s Nashville SC, it was announced Thursday.
