A skin lesion removed from President Joe Biden’s chest last month was a basal cell carcinoma — a common form of skin cancer. That’s according to his doctor, who added that no further treatment was required. Dr. Kevin O’connor, the White House doctor who has served as Biden’s longtime physician, said Friday that “all cancerous tissue was successful­ly removed” during the president’s physical on Feb. 16.

Execution on hold: Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs says correction­s officials will not carry out an execution even though the state Supreme Court scheduled it over the objections of the state’s new attorney general. The Democratic governor’s vow not to execute Aaron Gunches on April 6 for his murder conviction in a 2002 killing came a day after the state Supreme Court said it must grant an execution warrant if certain appellate proceeding­s have concluded — and that those requiremen­ts were met.

Russians sanctioned: The U.S. has imposed sanctions and visa restrictio­ns on five Russian officials and an expert witness involved in the incarcerat­ion of Vladimir Kara-murza, a Russian opposition leader who has been imprisoned in Moscow since April for speaking out against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He faces more than 30 years in prison.
