1 PRO BASKETBALL: The NBA has suspended Memphis Grizzilies guard Ja Morant eight games without pay after determinin­g that his holding a firearm at a club in suburban Denver earlier this month was “conduct detrimenta­l to the league.” Morant missed his sixth game Wednesday when the Grizzlies played in Miami. He will miss the next two games and be eligible to return Monday when Memphis plays Dallas. The games already missed will count toward the suspension, and Morant will forfeit about $669,000 in salary.

2 PRO BASEBALL: Left-hander José Quintana won’t make his New York Mets debut until at least July because of a stress fracture in a rib. The Mets are relieved that the prognosis wasn’t even more severe. Mets general manager Billy Eppler told reporters Tuesday a scan revealed a lesion on the impacted rib. Quintana went to New York to visit an orthopedic tumor specialist for a biopsy, and additional scans that revealed the lesion was benign. Eppler said Quintana will have an operation Friday in New York that involves a bone graft that will keep him out until at least July 1.

3 PRO BASKETBALL: Sacramento Kings forward Trey Lyles was suspended one game without pay and Milwaukee Bucks center Brook Lopez was fined $25,000 for their involvemen­t in an altercatio­n at the end of a game Monday night, the NBA announced Wednesday.

4 PRO BASEBALL: Catcher Keibert Ruiz gets a $3 million signing bonus as part of his $50 million, eight-year contract with the Washington Nationals, a deal that could be worth $76 million over 10 seasons if the team exercises a pair of options.

5 AUTO RACING: Charles Leclerc will start this weekend’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix with a grid penalty after Ferrari used a third electronic­s control unit on the car’s engine, the F1 team said.
