Former Power Five OCS to join UGA’S large staff

Georgia coach Kirby Smart has hired a pair of former Power Five offensive coordinators to join his staff.

Darrell Dickey, who most recently was Jimbo Fisher’s offensive coordinator at Texas A&M, and Brandon Streeter, who has been calling Clemson’s offense for Dabo Swinney, have accepted roles on the Bulldogs’ support staff. UGA confirmed their hires but could not say what positions they will fill on Georgia’s football staff, one of the largest in college football.

They’ll likely assume the offensive quality-control roles that were vacated by Mike Bobo and Buster Faulkner after last season. Bobo was appointed to succeed Todd Monken as the Bulldogs’ offensive coordinator. Faulkner was hired as Georgia Tech’s offensive coordinator in December but stuck with the Bulldogs through the national championship game.

The additions of Dickey and Streeter continue a Georgia trend of helping resurrect the careers of football coaches. Bobo joined the Bulldogs’ staff in December 2021 after being fired as Auburn’s offensive coordinator. A year earlier, Smart hired Will Muschamp as a defensive analyst after Muschamp was fired as South Carolina’s head coach. Muschamp is now co-defensive coordinator.

Dickey, 63, had been Fisher’s coordinator since 2018 but did not call plays for the Aggies. He coached tight ends as a position group last season and oversaw quarterbacks before that. A 38-year coaching veteran, Dickey also has held coordinator positions at Memphis, Texas State, New Mexico and Utah State.

Streeter, 46, was fired in January after one season as Clemson’s offensive coordinator. A former Clemson quarterback, Streeter was quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator when he was tabbed to succeed Tony Elliott as offensive coordinator when Elliott left to become head coach at Virginia. The Tigers fell to 29th in scoring last season (33.2 ppg) and 47th in total offense (410.3 ypg). A former recruiting coordinator, Streeter is best known for helping bring Cartersville’s Trevor Lawrence to Clemson.

Streeter had been on staff at his alma mater since December 2014 during a run that included two national titles. He was Clemson’s quarterbacks coach after being offensive coordinator at Liberty from 2009-11 and Richmond from 2012-14. He was recruiting coordinator for the Tigers from 2014-19.
