Talor Gooch continued his bogey-free run at ral LIV Australia tournament Saturday shot his second consecutiv­e 10-under 62 to increase his lead to 10 strokes

Gooch had a 36-hole total of 124 going into today’s final round. He led by four strokes after the opening round.

Denny Hamlin won the first superspeed­way pole of

career and will lead the field to green at Talladega Superspeed­way today. Hamlin, a Daytona 500 winner and two-time winner at Talladega, turned a lap at 180.642 mph in Saturday qualifying to put his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota in the top starting spot. Hamlin bumped Aric Almirola in a Ford from Stewart-Haas Racing and Ty Gibbs, Hamlin’s teammate at JGR.

Kansas City Royals lefthander Kris Bubic will have Tommy John surgery next week, the team announced Friday. Bubic experience­d forearm tightness last weekend during his start against the Braves, and further examinatio­n revealed he needed major surgery. Bubic went 0-2 with a 3.94 ERA in three starts for the Royals season, his fourth in the major leagues.

Milwaukee Brewers rookie center fielder Garrett Mitchell is at risk of missing the rest of the season after an MRI revealed significan­t damage to his left shoulder. Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Friday that Mitchell is getting a second opinion, but if has to undergo surgery, it would “definitely put the rest of the season in jeopardy.”
