1 MEDIA: Four major matchups for the coming college football season and the NBA draft airing on ESPN and ABC were announced Tuesday by ESPN as part of its presentati­on to advertiser­s in New York. The Labor Day weekend game between Florida State and LSU will air on ABC for the second straight season. The night game Sunday, Sept. 3, will take place this season in Orlando, Florida. Alabama will host Texas on Sept. 9 in a game airing on ESPN. ABC again will have the Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma from Dallas on Oct. 7 as well as Notre Dame’s game at Clemson on Nov. 4. For the third straight year, ESPN and ABC will carry the NBA draft, which will take place June 22 in New York.

2 HORSE RACING: Kentucky Derby winner Mage has been installed as the 8-5 morning line favorite for the Preakness. He’s the only horse in the field of eight set to take part in the second race of horse racing’s Triple Crown two weeks after running in the Derby. It’s the first Preakness since 1969 with just one Derby horse. Mage will face seven fresh horses in an attempt to keep open the possibilit­y of the first Triple Crown winner since Justify in 2018. He drew the No. 3 post.

3 PRO FOOTBALL: Za’darius Smith puts a new edge on Cleveland’s offseason defensive makeover. The three-time Pro Bowl pass rusher officially joined the Browns Tuesday after the team agreed last week to acquire him from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for fifthround draft picks in 2024 and 2025.

4 PRO SOCCER: Chicago Fire midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri remained Major League Soccer’s highest-paid player this year, and the league’s average salary rose 3.1% to $473,292. Toronto surpassed Atlanta as the team with the highest payroll at $25.7 million followed by the LA Galaxy at $23.5 million, according to figures released Tuesday by the MLS Players Associatio­n. Montreal was the lowest of the 29 teams at $10.5 million, just behind expansion franchise St. Louis at $10.9 million. The New York Red Bulls and Orlando were at about $11.2 million.

5 PRO BASKETBALL: Memphis Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane had surgery Tuesday on his right big toe after initially breaking a bone during a game Nov. 11 against Minnesota. The Grizzlies announced the procedure Tuesday on a broken medial sesamoid bone in the toe. The team says Bane is expected to be fully recovered before the start of the season.
