PRO HOCKEY: The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking for a new general manager after the team announced it had decided to part ways with Kyle Dubas. Toronto won a playoff series this year for the first time in nearly two decades. The Maple Leafs eliminated the Tampa Bay Lightning before losing to the underdog Florida Panthers in a disappoint­ing secondroun­d showing. Dubas’ contract was scheduled to expire June 30. An emotional Dubas said Monday he wasn’t sure if he would continue on as GM, citing the stress on his young family.

1PRO FOOTBALL: More than 18 months after placing him on administra­tive leave during an investigat­ion by the U.S. Drug Enforcemen­t Administra­tion, the Washington Commanders have rehired Doug Quon to his previous role of assistant athletic trainer. Quon started with Washington in 2014. The team placed him on leave in the fall of 2021 when the DEA investigat­ed Washington’s former head athletic trainer, Ryan Vermillion, for the possible disburseme­nt of prescripti­on painkiller­s.

Newcastle is one win away from a return to the Champions League. The Saudicontr­olled club beat Brighton 4-1 to strengthen its hold on third place in the Premier League. Three more points will guarantee Newcastle a top-four finish and an automatic spot in the Champions League. The club was last in that competitio­n 20 years ago.

PRO BASEBALL: The Los Angeles Dodgers have removed a satirical LGBTQ+ group called the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence from the team’s annual Pride Night after opposition from conservati­ve Catholic groups. The team announced Wednesday that the group, which primarily consists of men dressed as nuns, wouldn’t receive an award during the June 16 event, citing the “strong feelings”of people who were offended. The California-based Sisters raise money for charities and engage in various activities with a mission statement to“promote human rights and respect for diversity.”but opponents say they mock the Catholic faith.

Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen will run the Cup Series race on the streets of Chicago in July. He will become the latest acclaimed internatio­nal driver to venture to NASCAR’S top series for Trackhouse Racing after Kimi Räikkönen ran last year’s race at Watkins Glen and the March race at Circuit of the Americas.
