1 Toddler struck by bullet at day care: A 2-year-old was shot in the head by a stray bullet while playing outside at day care in Utah, authoritie­s said Tuesday. Spanish Fork police believe the bullet came from a pellet or air gun shot from a farming field across the street west of the facility, Lt. Clay Slaymaker said. There are currently no suspects. Slaymaker said police believe nobody on site knew about a shooting or reported hearing any shots.

2 New nasal spray for opioid overdoses gets FDA approval:

Health regulators on Monday approved a new easy-to-use version of a medication to reverse overdoses caused by fentanyl and other opioids driving the nation’s drug crisis. Opvee is similar to naloxone, the life-saving drug that has been used for decades to quickly counter overdoses of heroin, fentanyl and prescripti­on painkiller­s. Both work by blocking the effects of opioids in the brain, which can restore normal breathing and blood pressure in people who have recently overdosed.

3 Prince Harry’s effort to pay for police protection fails in court: A London judge ruled Tuesday against Prince Harry in his efforts to pay for police protection when he visits Britain. A High Court judge rejected the Duke of Sussex’s assertion that the British government exceeded its authority when it denied him the right to hire police to provide security in the U.K. The British government stopped providing security after Harry and his wife, Meghan, quit their royal duties and moved to California in 2020.

4 Lawyer who spat on anti-racism protester picks jail : A white lawyer who spat on a Black high school student during an antiracism march in suburban Milwaukee in 2020 has chosen jail over probation. Milwaukee County Judge Laura Crivello on Tuesday offered leniency to Stephanie Rapkin, a 67-year-old Shorewood attorney, staying a 60-day jail sentence for a year of probation with the condition that she put in 100 hours of community service.

5 Kentucky sheriff’s deputy fatally shot during traffic stop: Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy Caleb Conley, 35, was shot Monday evening during a traffic stop on Interstate 75 near Georgetown just before 5 p.m., and the shooter fled, Sheriff Tony Hampton said. About an hour later, officers in Lexington found a male victim who said another man shot him and stole his vehicle, police said. Steven Sheangshan­g, 45, was jailed on Tuesday and charged with assault, robbery, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and tampering with evidence, Lexington Police said.
