1 TRACK AND FIELD: Track and field is introducin­g new rules and a “short track” format for races run on 200-meter tracks, which have traditiona­lly been in enclosed arenas and referred to as “indoor” events. Short track world records can now be set at indoor or outdoor events under a proposal that’s expected to come into effect in November, governing body World Athletics said Tuesday. Short track records would be recognized in distances from 200 meters up to 5,000 meters and in some relay and mixed relay events.

2 SOCCER: Catarina Macario says she won’t be ready in time to play for the United States in this summer’s Women’s World Cup as she continues to recover from an ACL injury. The loss of the 23-year-old forward for the World Cup was not unexpected. But it was a blow to the United States, which had already lost Mallory Swanson to a torn patellar tendon during an exhibition game against Ireland in April. Macario plays profession­ally for Lyon in France.

3 SOCCER: Spanish police say they have arrested seven people accused of racially abusing Real Madrid player Vinícius Júnior. Three have been arrested in Valencia for alleged abuse against Vinícius in a Spanish league match Sunday. Four were arrested in Madrid for allegedly hanging an effigy of the player off a highway bridge in January. The effigy was hanged by the neck on the morning of a derby match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey. Along with it was a banner with the words “Madrid hates Real.”

4 PRO FOOTBALL: The Denver Broncos severed ties with kicker Brandon Mcmanus as they released the last holdover player from the team that won Super Bowl 50. The 31-year-old Mcmanus announced he was being released on social media shortly before the Broncos made it official. Mcmanus finished his nine-year career with Denver as the second-leading scorer in team history. He connected on a franchise-most 42 field goals of 50 or more yards in the regular season and the playoffs.

5 SOCCER: Los Angeles FC midfielder Timmy Tillman has been approved by FIFA to change his national team affiliatio­n to the United States from Germany, following a move made by younger brother Malik a year earlier. The 24-year-old Timmy Tillman was born in Germany to a father in the U.S. military and a German mother.
