COLLEGE FOOTBALL: 2

Texas backup quarterback Maalik Murphy will likely get his first start Saturday against BYU in place of injured starter Quinn Ewers. Ewers sprained his throwing shoulder in last week’s win over Houston. Murphy has battled top freshman Arch Manning for the backup job and has played in four games this season, mostly in mop-up duty. He took over the offense in the third quarter against Houston and threw only two passes, but directed the game-winning touchdown drive.

PRO SOCCER:

Manchester United reported revenues of 648.4 million pounds ($783.5 million) for the last financial year Thursday, a Premier League record. The latest financial figures from United come at a time when British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly ready to buy a 25% share of the English club from its American owners, the Glazer family. Overall revenue was up by 11% compared to the previous year even though United competed in the Europa League and not the more lucrative Champions League. The club still reported a net loss of 42.1 million pounds ($50.9M).

PRO SOCCER:

Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali was banned for 10 months by the Italian soccer federation on Thursday for betting on teams he played for — ruling him out of the rest of the Premier League season as well as competing for Italy at next year’s European Championship. The 23-yearold Tonali, who became the second player suspended in the widening case, agreed to a plea bargain with the federation that included therapy for a gambling addiction.
