PRO BASEBALL: Brewers manager Craig Counsell was meeting Monday with the Guardians about their managerial opening, a person familiar with the discussions told The Associated Press. Counsell has led the Brewers to the postseason five times in the past six years. His contract with Milwaukee is set to expire this week, but the Brewers are allowing him to look elsewhere while also hoping they can re-sign him. The Mets are also reportedly interested in Counsell, 53, and have far more money to offer than the Brewers or Guardians. Cleveland is searching for a manager for the first time since 2012 after Terry Francona, the winningest manager in club history, stepped down after this season. 1

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has been cleared to return to the lineup after missing three games with a neck injury. The Giants (2-6) could have used him in their 13-10 overtime loss to the Jets on Sunday since veteran backup Tyrod Taylor was forced to leave midway through the second quarter after hurting his ribs. Coach Brian Daboll said Taylor was still sore Monday and had not been released from Hackensack Medical Center, noting the injury was considered serious. The Giants finished with minus-9 net passing yards Sunday. Jones, who signed a four-year, $160 million contract in March, was hurt vs. Miami on Oct. 8 after he was hit on a blindside sack.

2Packers outside linebacker Rashan Gary said he agreed to a four-year, $107 million contract extension, good news for a 2-5 team that has lost four straight games. Gary was eligible to become a free agent after the season if he hadn’t agreed to an extension.
