Emory Healthcare to join Wounded Warrior on mental health care

$100M project will boost treatment for PTSD, brain injuries.

Emory Universit y announced Tuesday that Emory Healthcare will col- laborate with the Wounded Warrior Project on a $100 million project looking into evidence-based care for vet- erans’ mental health and brain injuries. The fund- ing will allow the Emory Healthcare Veterans Pro- gram to treat more post- 9/11 veteran outpatient­s for post-traumatic stress dis- order (PTSD), depression, anxiety and substance use disorder.

“Veterans tell us that the Warrio r C are N e t- work delivers results unlike many other treatment pro- grams, and that’s because of the shared expertise and contributi­ons of our clin- ical partners,” Wounded Warrior Project chief pro- gram officer Jennifer Silva told Emory Healthcare. “Wounded Warrior Proj- ect is very proud to invest in innovative research and treatments for men- tal health and brain injury care that are proven to help the warriors and families we serve thrive.”

The Emory Healthcare Veterans Program is one of four academic medical centers to partner with the Wounded Warrior Project to form the Warrior Care Network and help provide quality mental health care to America’s veterans. Since launching in 2015, the Wounded Warrior Project has invested $336 million into the Warrior Care Network.

“We are very deeply grateful for the Wounded Warrior Project and the Warrior Care Network for its continued p ar nership,” Barbara Rothbaum, executive director of the Emory Healthcare Veterans Program, said in a news release. “Our country’s veterans suffering through these invisible wounds of war deserve the best treatment available, and through this partnershi­p we are able to help them get their lives back on track.”

The Emory Healthcare Veterans Program features a two-week intensive outpatient program that includes wellness guidance and evidence-based treatments.
