1 PRO BASEBALL:

Left-hander José Suarez lost to the Los Angeles Angels in salary arbitration, giving teams a 2-0 advantage in decisions this year. Suarez was awarded a $925,000 salary rather than his $1.35 million request. The 26-year-old Suarez was 1-3 with an 8.29 ERA in seven starts and four relief appearances, earning $750,000. Miami outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. lost a day earlier and will earn $2,625,000 rather than $2.9 million.

2 PRO FOOTBALL:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers center Ryan Jensen has announced his retirement via social media after a knee injury caused him to play only one game over the last two seasons. The 32-year-old Jensen spent the entire 2023 season on injured reserve while dealing with an injury that also sidelined him for the 2022 regular season. Jensen did return to play in the Buccaneers’ playoff loss to the Dallas Cowboys that capped their 2022 season. Jensen had been with the Buccaneers since 2018 and was the starting center on the 2020 team that won a Super Bowl title.

3 COLLEGE FOOTBALL:

Michigan has promoted Kirk Campbell to offensive coordinator and Grant Newsome to offensive line coach on a new staff headed by Sherrone Moore following Jim Harbaugh’s departure. Campbell had worked as quarterbacks coach and Newsome had coached tight ends during Michigan’s 2023 national championship season. The moves come a week after Moore was promoted from offensive coordinator to head coach.

4 PRO BASKETBALL:

The Memphis Grizzlies traded center Steven Adams to the Houston Rockets for guard Victor Oladipo and three draft picks. Neither Oladipo nor Adams has played this season because of injuries. The Grizzlies announced the deal late Thursday night and said they acquired three second-round draft picks from the Rockets. Adams was hurt last season and had surgery on his right knee just before the start of this season. He’s expected to miss the entire season. Oladipo also has dealt with injuries.

5 PRO HOCKEY:

The Los Angeles Kings have fired coach Todd McLellan and named Jim Hiller the interim coach for the rest of the season. Los Angeles went into the All-Star break with the first wild-card spot in the Western Conference, but it is only four points ahead from falling out of a playoff spot. The Kings had a 20-7-4 start to the season, with the 44 points tied for the most in team history after 31 games. Since Dec. 28 they have gone 3-8-6. The three wins are tied for fewest in the league since that span.
