Heisman Trophy-winning QB Daniels meets with club
INDIANAPOLIS — Former Arizona State and LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, who’s considered the No. 2 quarterback in the draft, interviewed with the Falcons.
“Atlanta, what they are doing over there with Raheem (Morris) and all of those guys, getting a new regime in there,” Daniels said Friday at the NFL scouting combine. “To be able to go out there, I love Atlanta. Atlanta is a great city, obviously. Going out there, they have some great weapons on the offensive side of the ball, and they are on the up and up.”
Daniels, who’s 6 feet 4 and 210 pounds, won the Heisman Trophy last season after passing for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns and rushing for another 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The Falcons hold the eight overall pick in the draft and would have to trade up to land Daniels.
Rattler interviews
Former South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler also interviewed with the Falcons.
“I had a really good meeting with the Falcons,” Rattler told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution after his podium session Friday.
Rattler started his career at Oklahoma and played three seasons (2019-21) for the Sooners before transferring to South Carolina.
He played for the Gamecocks in 2022 and 2023.
Coming out of Pinnacle High in Phoenix, Rattler was considered the consensus No. 1 quarterback recruit in the nation in 2019. He was a five-star recruit, according to 247Sports and Rivals.
He showed his mettle against Georgia’s top-ranked defense in 2022. He stood in the pocket while facing intense pressure throughout the 48-7 rout.
Last season, Rattler had the Gamecocks up 14-3 at halftime against the Bulldogs, before Georgia rallied for a 24-14 win.
