No. 1 Gamecocks finish a perfect regular season

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Kamilla Cardoso had 18 points and 14 rebounds, Te-Hina Paopao scored 14 points and No. 1 South Carolina completed its second consecutiv­e perfect regular season with a 76-68 victory over Tennessee on Sunday.

Cardoso and Paopao, both seniors, excelled on Senior Day as the Gamecocks (29-0 overall, 16-0 in the SEC) won their 47th consecutiv­e SEC regular-season game and their 57th in a row at home. Rickea Jackson had a game-high 29 points for Tennessee (17-11, 0-6).

Cardoso played in front of her mother, Janete Soares, and older sister, Jessica Silva, after they arrived from Brazil. Cardoso had six points and six rebounds in the first quarter. After Tennessee took a 24-23 lead, she led the way as the Gamecocks outscored the Lady Vols 17-8 to close the second period and take a 40-32 lead into the break.

After Tennessee cut a 15-point deficit to 63-60 on Jackson’s jumper with 4:51 to play, Cardoso extended the margin with consecutiv­e inside shots. Cardoso fouled out late in the fourth quarter and got a loud ovation from the sold-out arena as she went to the bench.

Men

No. 3 UConn 91, Seton Hall 61: Donovan Clingan had 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead a balanced attack as host UConn clinched its first outright Big East regular-season title in 25 years.

Freshman Stephon Castle tied a career-high with 21 points and Tristen Newton added 17 points and 10 assists for the Huskies (26-3, 16-2 in the Big East), who finished this season undefeated at home (16-0). Alex Karaban scored 13 points.

Dre Davis had 20 points and Kadary Richmond added 15 for Seton Hall (18-11, 11-7). UConn shot 56% from the floor and outscored the Pirates 52-30 in the paint.
