Food temps, storage hurt score at Buford spot

Mold-like substance in ice machine also lowers rating at Barberitos.

During a routine health inspection at Barberitos in Buford, some foods were out of temperature range. Also, multiple trays of food in a walk-in cooler were uncovered and exposed to contaminants.

Barberitos, 2725 Hamilton Mill Road, Buford, scored 65/U, down from 85/B. It will be renspected.

Milk, lettuce, shredded cheese, diced tomatoes and spinach in a cooler were at unsafe temperatures and discarded. Some hot-holding foods were out of temperature range and reheated to prevent contamination.

Among other violations, the ice machine had a black moldlike accumulation inside.

Tilapia was in a closed reduced-oxygen package while thawing in the walk-in cooler. The fish was discarded; the package was supposed to have been removed before thawing.

Containers of sauces and oils were not labeled. Employees were prepping and handling food while wearing jewelry and without hair restraints.
