Guatemalan eatery fails health check

Doraville restaurant had rodent problems, malfunctioning cooler.

La Monja Blanca, a Guatemalan restaurant in Doraville, failed a routine health inspection with a malfunctioning cooler and rodent problems.

The walk-in cooler had an ambient temperature of 49.6 degrees, and the food was unsafe. Discarded were beef stew, chicken tamales, spaghetti and salsa. Milk in the reach-in cooler was also out of the temperature range.

La Monja Blanca scored 52/U, down from 72/C. It will be reinspected.

The grease trap had rat droppings, and rat poison was along the wall, by the grease trap and underneath ovens. The bait stations were not covered or tamper-resistant, as required.

Among other violations, three boxes of raw chicken and one of potatoes were directly on the floor. The chicken was thawing at room temperature.

Packaged raw ground beef was above ready-to-eat beef stew and exposed to cross-contamination.

Uncooked chicken was prepped in the produce sink. The dish sink had no measurable amount of chlorine sanitizer.
