Roswell police closed nine unlicensed massage establishments Monday. Six other spas were cited for violations.

A police statement said the actions are a part of continued efforts by the city and law enforcement to eliminate illegal massage businesses in Roswell.

On Monday, police found that the following establishments were operating without licenses: Care Therapeutic Health Services, 282 Rucker Road; Ease Massage, 1085 Holcomb Bridge Road; Lilly Massage, 10479 Alpharetta Highway; M Massage, 900 Mansell Road; Woori Massage, 1072 Alpharetta Street; Yun Massage, 11230 Alpharetta Highway; Spa Amore, 11285 Elkins Road; Heavenly Foot Massage, 11680 Alpharetta Highway; and Amethyst Enterprises, 770 Old Roswell Road.

Ease Massage was among several spas where police served search warrants last September during a joint operation by law enforcement agencies to uncover human trafficking and prostitution in Roswell.

“There has been prior illicit activity associated with that business,” Roswell Police spokesman Tim Lupo said.

Last week, Roswell approved new regulations for spas. The ordinance says that practitioners licensed by the state are the only people who can provide massage services to customers. Other employees must obtain a permit from the police department that explains what their job is at the business.

Roswell officials say compliance checks at massage spas will continue regularly in the coming weeks. Police closed seven massage businesses in January for operating without a license.
