1 2 3 4 5 U.N. panel ends monitoring of North Korea nuclear sanctions:

Russia has vetoed a U.N. resolution in a move that effectively abolishes the monitoring by United Nations experts of U.N. sanctions against North Korea over its nuclear program, though the sanctions themselves remain in place. Russia’s vote Thursday prompted Western accusations that Moscow, in violation of sanctions, was acting to shield its weapons purchases from North Korea for use in its war against Ukraine. The Security Council resolution sponsored by the United States would have extended the mandate of the panel for a year.

Fundraiser with Obama, Clinton nets record $25 million, Biden campaign says:

A fundraiser for President Joe Biden in New York City that also was scheduled to feature Barack Obama and Bill Clinton is raising a whopping $25 million. Biden’s campaign says the Thursday night event sets a record for the biggest haul for a political event. Biden visited several political battlegrounds in the past few weeks. S.C. to hold elections with map ruled unconstitutional:

A federal court has ruled that congressional elections in South Carolina will be held under a map that it previously had deemed unconstitutional and discriminatory against Black voters. A panel of three federal judges from the state Thursday called it “plainly impractical” to make changes to the maps before the primary overseas ballot deadlines next month. The panel previously had ordered South Carolina to redraw the district because the state used race as a proxy for partisan affiliation in violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution.

Threatened species to regain protections previously dropped:

Restoring rules to protect imperiled plants and animals, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will reinstate a decadesold regulation that mandates blanket protections for species newly classified as threatened. That means officials won’t have to craft time-intensive plans to shield each individual species while protections are pending. The blanket protections were dropped in 2019. Officials also will not consider economic impacts when deciding if animals and plants need protection.
