1 PRO CYCLING:

Two-time defending Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard was taken to a hospital in an ambulance after a bad crash at the Basque Country Vuelta on Thursday. Team Visma said Vingegaard was “conscious and will be examined in the hospital.”The Danish rider wasn’t able to move much while being treated by doctors by the side of the road following the crash that happened with less than 19 miles to go in the fourth stage. He was put in an ambulance with an oxygen mask and a neck brace. Australian rider Jay Vine also was taken to a hospital.

2 PRO FOOTBALL:

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers addressed the need for an edge pass rusher by signing outside linebacker Randy Gregory to a one-year contract. The team confirmed the addition Thursday and is hoping the 31-year-old, who also played defensive end with Dallas, Denver and San Francisco, will fill a void created when the Bucs released linebacker Shaquil Barrett in a salary cap move last month.

3 PRO TENNIS:

Rafael Nadal pulled out of the Monte Carlo Masters on Thursday because of a lingering injury, delaying the start of his claycourt tournament preparatio­n ahead of the French Open and extending his absence that began in January. Nadal, 37, had hip surgery last summer and has played only three competitiv­e matches — in Brisbane before skipping the Australian Open — this year.

4 PRO BASKETBALL:

Kenny Smith will own an expansion team in Australia’s National Basketball League and will help recruit and develop players for the league that has sent LaMelo Ball and others to the NBA in recent years. The former NBA player and TNT studio analyst was appointed Thursday as head of the league’s Next Stars’ player initiative­s for North America, hoping to boost the program that aims to be a springboar­d to the NBA.

5 PRO TENNIS:

Italian tennis official Manuel Guion has been suspended for 5½ years for multiple corruption breaches, including encouragin­g tennis betting, the Internatio­nal Tennis Integrity Agency said in a statement.
