Judy Jenkins "Whaley" Wright peacefully passed away at home on March 5, 2024 with her daughter, Sara Whaley, and stepson, Robert Wright, by her side. She is preceded in death by her parents, U.R. Jenkins and Helen Travis Jenkins, her husband, James Carman
Wright, and her sister, Nancy
Jenkins Dixon.
Born in Atlanta, GA on November 3, 1942, Judy grew up in Winder, GA and graduated from Winder-Barrow High School in 1960. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia followed by her Master and Specialist degrees in Education from Georgia State University. She taught chemistry and physics prior to becoming a middle and high school Administrator and Principal. The vast majority of her 37 years in education were spent at Campbell High School in Smyrna, GA.
A devoted educator and life-long learner, she is remembered by friends and family for her compassion, her sharp intellect, and for her love of nature, travel, music, dance, and football. She is survived by her daughter, Sara Elizabeth Whaley, Eugene, OR; her brother, Michael Vincent Jenkins, Athens, GA, her niece, Teri Dixon Borders, Birmingham, AL; and her nephew, Robert Brent Dixon, Manhattan, KS. She is also survived by her 5 great-nieces, Katherine Dixon, Molly Dixon, Grace Dixon, Maggie Dixon, and Mary Hanson Borders. Visitation to be held at Carmichael Funeral Home on Friday, April 12th from 6:00-8:00 PM. Celebration of Life to be held at Smyrna First United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 13 at 11:00 AM.
