1 OLYMPICS:

Olympic triple jump champion Yulimar Rojas tore her left Achilles tendon and said Friday she will miss this year’s Paris Games. The 28-year-old Venezuelan said on her Instagram account she was injured while training in Spain. She said she had surgery in Madrid on Thursday. Rojas last competed in September when she won the Diamond League. She missed the world indoor championsh­ips in Scotland in March.

2 PRO CYCLING:

Belgian cyclist Wout van Aert will miss the Giro d’Italia after suffering multiple fractures during the Dwars door Vlaanderen race last month. Van Aert crashed at high speed, suffering a broken sternum, broken collarbone and broken ribs. In a video published by the Visma-Lease a Bike team Thursday, Van Aert said he cannot train at the moment and has had to pull out of the Giro.

3 COLLEGE BASKETBALL:

Adem Bona is leaving UCLA after two years to enter the NBA draft. The sophomore from Lagos, Nigeria, announced his plans Friday on his Instagram account. Bona averaged 10.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.7 blocks while starting 65 of 66 games over his two years in Westwood. The 6-foot-10 forward-center was named All-Pac-12 and was the league’s defensive player of the year this season. Bona earned Pac-12 AllDefensi­ve Team honors both seasons and was named the league’s freshman of the year in 2023.

4 COLLEGE FOOTBALL:

SMU player Teddy Knox has been suspended after being identified as the second driver along with Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice in a high-speed, chain-reaction crash on a Dallas highway. The school said Thursday it was made aware of an arrest warrant for Knox issued by Dallas police and declined to offer further details on the suspension, citing student privacy laws. Police have said the warrants issued for Knox, 21, included one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury.

5 PRO BASEBALL:

The Baltimore Orioles acquired right-handed reliever Yohan Ramírez from the New York Mets for cash Thursday. The 28-year-old Ramírez was 0-1 with an 11.81 ERA in three appearance­s this season for New York, which designated him for assignment Monday. For his career, he has a 4.31 ERA in 105 appearance­s over five seasons for Seattle, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, the Chicago White Sox and the Mets. Ramírez was signed out of the Dominican Republic by Houston in 2016, and the Mariners later acquired him in the Rule 5 draft.
