PRO MEN’S TENNIS: Jan-Lennard 1 Struff won his first title, at the age of 33, with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Taylor Fritz in the BMW Open final on Sunday in Munich. The 28th-ranked German had lost on his previous three appearance­s in finals, but he converted five of 11 break points he earned against Fritz to win in 1 hour, 19 minutes. The ATP said Struff became the third-oldest first-time champion, at 33 years and 11 months, since the tour started in 1990.

PRO WOMEN’S TENNIS: Elena 2 Rybakina eased to her third title of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in the final of the Porsche Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany. Rybakina, the world No. 4-ranked player who defeated top-ranked Iga Swiatek in the semifinals, saved the three break points she faced and took four from six opportunit­ies to win in 1 hour, 9 minutes, for her tour-leading 26th win of the year. The Stuttgart title comes after wins in Adelaide and Abu Dhabi this season. The Kazakh player’s previous clay-court wins were in Rome in 2023 and Bucharest in 2019.

3 PRO HOCKEY: Here’s a sentence that has never been said: Florida leads Tampa Bay in a playoff series. And, for the Panthers, that’s a great way to start. Carter Verhaeghe tapped in a pinpoint pass from Aleksander Barkov for the lead 58 seconds into the third period, Matthew Tkachuk added a goal and an assist, and the Panthers beat the Lightning 3-2 on Sunday in Game 1 of their playoff series. Barkov had two assists, Sam Reinhart scored, and Sergei Bobrovsky had 17 saves for the Panthers, who won a Game 1 on home ice for the first time since 1997. Brandon Hagel and Steven Stamkos got the goals for Tampa Bay. Andrei Vasilevski­y made 25 stops for the Lightning. Game 2 is Tuesday in Sunrise, Florida.

PRO MEN’S SOCCER: Josip 4 Stanišic scored in stoppage time for champion Bayer Leverkusen to preserve its German record, 45game unbeaten run with a 1-1 draw at Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. Leverkusen substitute Florian Wirtz sent in a corner kick that Stanišic headed to equalize in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
