1 OLYMPICS: 2 COLLEGES:

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said she is confident water quality will be up to Olympics standards this summer. She said she’ll be swimming there, possibly alongside President Emmanuel Macron. The Seine River is the venue for marathon swimming at the Games and the swimming leg of the Olympic and Paralympic triathlon. An environmental group recently denounced the river’s poor water quality. Asked Tuesday about whether she’ll meet her promise to swim in the Seine before the Games, Hidalgo said, “For sure, because water quality will be good.”

Missouri hired longtime college administrator Laird Veatch to be its athletic director. The school is bringing him back to campus 14 years after he departed for a series of other positions that culminated with five years spent as the AD at Memphis. Veatch replaces Desireé Reed-Francois, who abruptly left last month for the athletic director job at Arizona. He takes over an athletic department that has had success this past season in football, wrestling and gymnastics, and recently announced a $250 million project to renovate Memorial Stadium, the home of the Tigers’ football team.

3 PRO HOCKEY:

Lindy Ruff is returning to Buffalo for a second stint as coach of the Sabres. General manager Kevyn Adams announced the hiring Monday. Ruff coached the Sabres from 1997-2013 and was the last person to guide them to the playoffs. Buffalo fired Don Granato after the Sabres missed the playoffs for a fourth consecutive season. The Sabres haven’t made the playoffs since 2011, the longest drought in the league. Ruff coached the New Jersey Devils the past three seasons before being fired in March.

Guard Epiphanny Prince announced her retirement on social media after playing 14 seasons in the WNBA. Prince, 36, retired after averaging 10.7 points, 2.5 assists and 1.4 steals in 315 career games with Chicago, Las Vegas, Seattle and New York. Prince rose to national fame when she scored a record 113 points in a high school game before going to Rutgers. She helped the Scarlet Knights reach the national title game as a freshman in 2007.

5 COLLEGE BASKETBALL:

Colorado freshman forward Cody Williams is entering the NBA draft. Williams (6 feet 8, 210 pounds) averaged 11.9 points and 3.0 rebounds to help the Buffaloes reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Williams shot 55.2% from the field. His brother, Jalen, was the 12th overall pick by Oklahoma City in 2022 out of Santa Clara.
