1 TENNIS:
Billie Jean King is a 39-time Grand Slam champion and an equal rights champion — and now she’s getting the Breakfast of Champions treatment. The twiceinducted tennis Hall of Famer will appear on a limited-edition box of Wheaties. The cereal maker announced Thursday that the orange packages with King on the cover will be available at stores later this month. King was a driving force behind the creation of the women’s professional tennis tour, equal prize money for women and men, and the passage of Title IX. The 80-year-old American won a total of 39 titles across singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles at Grand Slam tournaments during her career.
2 SOCCER:
Tim Howard will join Tony Meola, Kasey Keller and Brad Friedel on Saturday as modern-era American goalkeepers in the U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame. Now 45, Howard was the U.S. goalkeeper at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups and made 121 international appearances from 2002-17, the most among American goalkeepers.
3 COLLEGE BASKETBALL: 3
Nebraska forward Rienk Mast will have surgery on his left knee and miss the 2024-25 season, coach Fred Hoiberg said Thursday. Mast, who averaged 12.3 points and 7.5 rebounds last season, said he plans to take a medical redshirt and return in 2025-26. Mast’s six doubledoubles were the most by a Nebraska player since 2007-08.
4 PRO BASKETBALL:
Cleveland Cavaliers starting center Jarrett Allen did not practice as he continues to be slowed by a painful rib injury that could keep him out of tonight’s crucial Game 6 in Orlando. Allen didn’t dress for Cleveland’s 104-103 win in Game 5 on Wednesday, but he did do some rehab work Thursday as his teammates prepared for the Magic.
5 PRO GOLF:
Sebastian Soderberg of Sweden maintained his impressive form by shooting a bogey-free,9under 63 to take a share of the first-round lead at the China Open on the European tour Thursday. Romain Langasque of France was tied for the lead after also being bogey-free in Shenzhen.
