2 PRO HOCKEY:

Winnipeg Jets coach Rick Bowness is retiring after 38 seasons in the NHL, a career that included leading Dallas to the Stanley Cup Final in 2020 and more time spent behind the bench than anyone else in league history. At 69 the oldest with a head role in the NHL, Bowness is a finalist for the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year for the first time after leading the Jets to a franchise-record 52 wins and a second consecutive postseason appearance in as many seasons on the job. The team announced Bowness’ decision Monday, roughly a week since being eliminated in the first round by Colorado. Bowness worked 2,726 games as a coach in some capacity, the vast majority of it as an assistant. He is one of just three to coach across five decades. As a player, Bowness spent time with the Atlanta Flames from 1975-77.

3 PRO BASEBALL:

The Guardians are losing their leadoff hitter for a bit and adding one with power and potential. Cleveland placed outfielder Steven Kwan, who leads the AL with a .353 average, on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring strain he sustained while running down a fly ball. The Guardians said Kwan likely will be out for up to one month. His injury is a blow to the AL Central-leading Guardians, but it’s giving the team a chance to promote prospect Kyle Manzardo.

4 WEIGHTLIFTING:

Two-time European champ Oleksandr Pielieshenko died on the front line in the war in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Olympic Committee said. He was 30.
