7-year-old struck, killed near Sandalwood Elementary School
Baltimore County Police are continuing their investigation into a fatal crash involving a second grade student at Sandalwood Elementar y School in Essex.
Police were dispatched to the driveway of a townhome community across from the school around 3:26 p.m. on Thursday, October 18 where the girl was struck by a white work van. The preliminary investigation indicates that she was running down the sidewalk after a group of children when she darted out in front of the van as it began to exit the townhome community onto South Marlyn Avenue. The victim has since been identified as Na Tasha Newman of the 1000 block of Punjab Drive, 21221.
The first officer arrived on the scene at 3:28 p.m. and immediately began CPR on the 7-year-old child, who was rushed to Franklin Square Hospital by responding medics. She was later pronounced deceased. The driver remained at the scene.
The Baltimore County Police Crash Investigation Team responded to the scene to conduct crash reconstruction and will continue the investigation into this fatal crash.
