Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star infielder Max Muncy will attend the seventh annual CSUB Hot Stove Dinner, according to Cal State Bakersfield athletics.

The event will be hosted by the CSUB baseball team on Jan. 17. Held at the Kern County Fairgrounds, the fundraiser acts as an introduction to the players and coaches on the 2020 Roadrunner team. It will feature a catered dinner from Luigi’s and an auction featuring items such as autographed sports memorabilia and Dodgers tickets.

Muncy, a National League AllStar a season ago after hitting 35 home runs and driving in 98 RBIs, will take part in a Q&A session. He joins a list of prestigious Hot Stove guests, which previously included the likes of Tommy Lasorda, Cody Bellinger and Orel Hershiser.

The top junior college teams in the state will meet in Bakersfield today to decide the 2019 CCCAA Football state champion.

It’s a heavyweight battle between two 12-0 teams, as No. 1 Riverside City will face No. 2 College of San Mateo in a game set to kickoff at 1 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

It will be a strength vs. strength showdown, as a Riverside offense that averages 51.2 points per game takes on a San Mateo defense that allowed just 9.7 a contest.

Both programs are looking to capture their first state championships. Riverside City is playing in its first title game, while San Mateo finished as the runner-up in both 2009 and 2017.

Saturday’s game marks the first time both state teams enter undefeated since 2013, when Butte took down Fullerton 28-13.

Local soccer fans will have an opportunity to catch plenty of action today with the Garces and Liberty boys and girls tournaments each taking place.

Garces’ tournament is at the Kern County Soccer Park, with games getting underway at 9 a.m. and championships being held at 12:45 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The Patriots will host their own soccer tournaments as well, with games beginning at 9 a.m. at Polo Park.

On the basketball court, North High hosts the annual Kern Schools Federal Credit Union Tournament in boys hoops. Games are slated to begin at 9 a.m. with the championship scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m.

And in high school wrestling, East High hosts the Coyote Classic. Action is expected to get started just before 10 a.m.

Tonight at Mechanics Bank Arena, the Bakersfield Condors will take the ice against the Grand Rapids Griffins.

The Condors, holding a 9-11-2-1 overall record (21 points and fifth in the Pacific Division standings) entering Friday’s game, will look to get on track against a Griffins team that also has a sub-.500 record — a 10-13-1-2 mark entering Friday’s contest against the Condors.

The puck drops at 7 p.m.
