BC to host 2nd J&J vaccine clinic today
Bakersfield College announced that it will hold its second drive-thru COVID-19 vaccination today with 1,000 Johnson & Johnson vaccines available for those who are eligible.
According to a news release from the school, the clinic will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and appointments are still available.
Appointments can be made online at BC’s Student Health and Wellness Center page, located at bakersfieldcollege.edu/studenthealth/ clinic.
The news release added that the clinic will accept eligible individuals on a first-come, first-serve basis between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. as vaccine supply allows.
CityServe Kern County and Canyon Hills Assembly of God are teaming up for a Truck to Trunk food giveaway event today.
According to a news release from the churches, the event is taking place from 10 to 11 a.m. at Canyon Hills, 7001 Auburn St.
The giveaway features 2,600 30-pound food boxes mixed with fresh produce, protein and dairy provided by the United States Department of Agriculture Farmers. It’s part of the USDA’s Families Food Box Program, which has been taking place throughout the pandemic.
Anyone in need is invited to the drive-thru outreach to receive the free food boxes while supplies last, the news release stated. No proof of eligibility is required.
Recipients will be asked
to stay in their vehicles while volunteers load their vehicle’s trunk with the food boxes.
State Sen. Melissa Hurtado, D-Sanger, will hold a town hall meeting on Monday to discuss COVID-19 and possible prevention measures that could be taken to avoid another pandemic in the future.

It will cover actions California can take in preventing another pandemic as well as discuss leading research occurring in the Central Valley and across the country.
Panelists at the town hall will include Dr. Stephen Higgs, director, Biosecurity Research Institute; and Dr. Jasmeet Bains, physician, Kern County.
