Sheriff’s office investigat­es Sunday shooting

Kern County Sheriff’s deputies are investigat­ing a shooting Sunday afternoon that left a 16-year-old boy in the hospital with non-life-threatenin­g injuries, according to a KCSO news release.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a gunshot victim around 1:07 p.m., near the intersecti­on of Pacific Street and Orange Drive, the news release stated.

When deputies arrived, they found the teen with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was transporte­d to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life threatenin­g injuries.

The suspect reportedly fled on foot, and is still being sought by deputies as of about 3 p.m. Sunday.

POLICE INVESTIGAT­E FATAL CRASH ON GOLDEN STATE

Bakersfiel­d Police Department officers reported Sunday afternoon that one person has died of injuries sustained in a crash at the intersecti­on of Golden State

Highway and Q Street.

Officers responded to the crash around 12:48 p.m. Sunday, which involved an SUV and a pickup truck. BPD officials reported the driver of the truck sustained moderate injuries, and that the passenger of the truck later died at the hospital as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the SUV did not sustain injury, and cooperated with law enforcemen­t officials after the collision, according to a BPD news release.

Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be factors in the collision, according to the preliminar­y report. The investigat­ion is ongoing.
