Highway Patrol investigating death of pedestrian in Oildale
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the death of pedestrian who was struck by a car Monday night in Oildale.
CHP officers, Kern County Sheriff’s deputies, the Kern County Fire Department and Hall Ambulance went to the area of North Chester and Lincoln avenues at 8:53 p.m. for reports of a crash involving a pedestrian and a SUV.
A preliminary investigation showed a SUV driver, Richard Wesson, 55, was traveling south on N. Chester at 40 mph, according to a CHP news release. A woman was crossing into North Chester lanes outside a marked crosswalk, the news release states.
Wesson “was unable to slow, stop or take evasive action” and collided into the pedestrian, the CHP said.
The Kern County coroner’s office identified the pedestrian as Christina Eileen Walker, 50, of Bakersfield. She died at 9:33 p.m. at the scene, the coroner said in a news release.
Wesson cooperated with the investigation. He was not intoxicated, the CHP said. It is unknown if the pedestrian was intoxicated, the news release stated.
The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for the community’s help to find a missing toddler and his mother who were last seen June 26.
Josiah Felix, a 2-yearold boy, was last seen with his mother during a visitation, the BPD said in a news release. Felix is a white boy with blond hair, blue eyes and stands at about 2 feet tall while weighing 25 to 30 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt and gray shorts.
His mother, Lisette Monique Felix, is a 27-year-old white woman who is 4 foot, 11 inches tall and weighs 98 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.
Both could be in a Blue Saturn Ion sedan with unknown license plates, according to the BPD news release.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Tuesday after he climbed onto the roof of Rite Aid in south Bakersfield.
Ramon Garcia, 29, was arrested on suspicion of trespassing, being under the influence of drugs and resisting arrest.
KCSO deputies received reports at 8:10 a.m. of a man throwing objects off the roof of Rite Aid on South H street. Deputies responded and attempted to convince the man to come down from the roof, according to a KCSO news release.
Negotiations lasted for about an hour, and the man was apprehended, the news release added.
